Our Story
Many people say that farming is in their blood. This is very true in our case, for both sides of the family. My Grammy started farming over 30 years ago, showing goats and making goat cheese. We wanted to carry on the family tradition and for a time had a small goat dairy. For this, we used family recipes and kept the same name as my Grammy’s farm, “Hi-Land Farm”.
Growing up my husband milked cows and took care of heifers, raised chickens and ducks, and was a big part of breeding Great Danes with his family. We both felt that our experiences were very important in shaping who we are, and we wanted our children to experience these same things. This was how we came into breeding Bracco Italiano’s, dogs that are loyal, wonderful family dogs and good with kids. They are great for people who like spending a lot of time enjoying the outdoors, yet they are calm and quiet in the house.
We started with Penny and Fosco in 2012 and have imported bloodlines from overseas to expand on what can be found in the US. Our goal is to produce dogs that are great in the home, as well as in the field. Our dogs have a natural ability to follow commands which is helpful for people who aren’t able to devote as much time to training as they would like to be.
Over the years we have had many different breeds of poultry, goats, cows and pigs. It’s been about two years since we made the decision to stop goat farming and making cheese. During this time we have renovated our 1850’s farmhouse and are now ready to get back into farming; we just can’t stay away! Now, along with breeding our dogs, we are slowly adding to our small homestead farm. This year we decided to add gilt pigs to go with our feeder pigs, as well as grow our flock of chickens to be able to sell chicks and pullets.
BA has decided to breed Holland Lop bunnies. This is entirely her project and she does an amazing job taking care of them on her own; all the while learning the responsibilities of being a pet owner. We will see what AA decides to do when he gets a little older!
